Only 19 Carthusian monks now live in St. Hugh's Charterhouse ten acre Monastery in Sussex which was originally built to house 250. The cloisters are so long, some over half a mile, that they have taken to using bicycles to get them from their cells to their work and prayers. It took over a month to arrange to photograph the silent order for only 15 minutes of photography between prayers.
